Ober Gatlinburg is proud to announce that they will be hosting the Winter Olympic Games. Ober Gatlinburg has been preparing to host approximately 140 athletes during this year’s games.
The Winter Olympics in the Great Smoky Mountains
The athletes who make their way to the Smoky Mountains from January 27-28 will be competing for gold in a variety of activities, including Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding. These Olympic games aren’t your traditional Olympics, though. . . they’re better! Every year, Ober Gatlinburg hosts the Special Olympics at their Ski Resort. The opening ceremonies of the event in Gatlinburg are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, and the closing ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Admission for the Public
The Special Olympics are truly a memorable experience for everyone involved. The athletes love the Special Olympics because they are able to make friends and support one another throughout the events. The support that each athlete receives from the public is outstanding. The slopes and skating rink will be closed to the public during the games, but families will love spending the afternoon watching the athletes compete.

The History of the Special Olympics
The Special Olympics began in 1968, even though the idea of having Special Olympics began a few years before. The Special Olympics are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities. In addition, Special Olympics Tennessee has a goal to change the lives of everyone who comes in contact with the program, including the public who attend the events.
