In addition to breathtaking foliage, fall brings a variety of special seasonal foods to the Smokies! Here at Auntie Belham’s Cabin Rentals, we look forward to these tasty treats all year, so we wanted to share them with our guests. Here are the top five places to enjoy some local delicacies this fall in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge:
Taste of Autumn is an annual event featuring samples from some of Gatlinburg’s best restaurants. Guests at this fundraiser will help support the United Way of Sevier County while enjoying delicious dishes from restaurants like The Melting Pot, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Taste of Italy, and more. The event also typically features a celebrity guest and live entertainment. Taste of Autumn is held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center, usually around mid-September. Fall is apple season, and that means a trip to the Apple Barn Village is an absolute must! This wonderful shopping and dining complex makes superb use of the apples that are grown at the onsite orchard. Have breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant & Grill and enjoy a complimentary serving of their famous apple fritters, incredible apple butter, and fruit juice julep.
For dessert, head over to the Apple Barn Cider Mill & General Store for a fried apple pie, apple cinnamon donuts, apple butter muffins, or a glass of fresh cider. Visitors to the Apple Barn Village will find even more apple products at the Apple Valley Creamery, the Candy Apple & Chocolate Factory, and the Apple Barn Winery.
Throughout the month of October, Dollywood hosts the National Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration . In addition to great gospel concerts and impressive craft demonstrations, this festival also features some mouthwatering fall food. Taking advantage of the autumn harvest, Dollywood’s restaurants serve dishes that make use of fresh corn, apples, and other seasonal produce.
The shops and restaurants at The Old Mill Square never disappoint during the fall! Pumpkin bread, pumpkin butter, pumpkin spice pancake mix, and other pumpkin treats are available throughout the fall season. Guests at The Old Mill Restaurant will love the corn fritters, corn chowder, and freshly baked pecan pie. If you will be in town for Thanksgiving, you can have a wonderful holiday meal at either The Old Mill Restaurant or The Old Mill Pottery House Café & Grille.
If you’re a fan of German foods, you will definitely want to stop by the OktOBERfest celebration at Ober Gatlinburg! Running from late September throughout the month of October, this fun festival will feature all of your favorite Bavarian dishes, including bratwurst, pretzels, sauerkraut, schnitzel, and strudel. Of course, there will also be plenty of German beers on hand to drink with your meal.
