Come on out to Pigeon Forge to join in the celebration of spring with the Music in the Mountains Spring Parade! High school marching bands, choral groups, dance groups and baton twirlers from across the country will be featured in this festive event that only happens once a year! Here is everything that you need to know about the Music in the Mountains Spring Parade in Pigeon Forge:
The Music in the Mountains Spring Parade may sound like a new event in Pigeon Forge, but it has actually been around for years when it was known as the Dolly Parade. While Dolly Parton was the grand marshal of the parade for over three decades, she has decided to step aside to share the spotlight with someone else. As a result, the new parade name was born! This year’s parade grand marshal will be Cal Ripken, Jr., a member of of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and cofounder of Ripken Baseball , which operates the Ripken Experience youth baseball facility in Pigeon Forge.
This spectacular parade in Pigeon Forge will showcase the rich musical heritage of the Great Smoky Mountains while featuring a variety of entertainment with performers from the many theaters throughout town. These entertainers will be joining the high school marching bands and other groups as they march through Pigeon Forge to celebrate the spring season! One of the new elements for 2018 are 4 huge cold-air balloons that depict the popular children’s characters Daniel the Tiger, Yogi Bear and the Pajaminals.
The Music in the Mountains Spring Parade takes place all along the Pigeon Forge Parkway on Friday, May 4. The parade kicks off at 6 p.m., but there will also be free bluegrass concerts throughout town on Friday and Saturday. Dank Strangers will perform on Friday, May 4 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the Ole Smoky Moonshine stage at The Island in Pigeon Forge . Meanwhile, local favorite Jim Smith will be taking the stage on Saturday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gazebo at The Old Mill .
