Packing for a Smoky Mountain vacation can sometimes be a little difficult, especially when you are traveling with a pet. Not only do you have to make sure that you and your kids have everything you need to enjoy a relaxing family trip, but you also have to make sure that your furry family member is accounted for as well.

Check Your Dogs Vaccines and Tags
Before you leave for vacation, you will want to make sure that your pet is up-to-date on all of his/her vaccines and medications. This includes flea/tick medicine, heartworm, rabies, and anything else that your dog needs from the vet.
In addition, you will want to make sure that your dog has a collar with a tag that is sturdily attached that has your pets name, your phone number and your address. This will help in the unlikely event that your dog gets away from your during your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin vacation, and the person that finds it will know how to get in touch with you.
Bring Plenty of Food
There is a slight chance that the grocery stores or pet stores in the area might not carry your dog’s specific brand of food. Because we don’t want your pup to go hungry during your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin vacation, and that we know how switching your dogs food suddenly can cause an upset stomach, we suggest that you pack a little extra food than what your dog would normally eat during the time you are on vacation.
This could include just simply buying a little bit bigger of a bag or even two bags.
Don’t Forget Their Toys
As pet owners, we all know how rambunctious a dog can be when he/she gets bored, and just how you want to bring a few toys or books to keep your kids entertained while on vacation, you will want to pack a few of your pet’s favorite toys to play with during your pet friendly Gatlinburg vacation.
If you do accidentally forget to pack a toy or two, you can always swing by one of the many Gatlinburg gift shops and pick up a souvenir for your dog to bring home, given it lasts long enough.
Treats and Bones Are Also Important
Because you are in a new environment, it may be easy for your dog to pick up a few bad habits. This can include tugging on the leash while walking or barking at odd times of the night because he/she isn’t used to the sounds outside your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin.
You can break these habits by rewarding them with a treat whenever they are good, just like when you are at home.
Packing a bone for your pet to chew on is the same as bringing a toy to keep him/her entertained throughout the day.
Pack Any Medications Your Dog Takes
The last thing you want during your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin vacation is to have a sick dog on your hands. You can prevent this by double checking that you packed any and all medicines that your dog may require.
If for some reason you accidentally forgot any important meds, you can try and call your vet’s office at home to see if they can get in touch with one of the local animal clinics in the area and to forwards your dog’s prescription.
Put Together a Doggy First Aid Kit
You never know what your dog can get into, especially when he/she is in a new environment. There are tons of new sights and smells to experience, and unfortunately not all them are very pet-friendly.
If your pooch happens to accidentally eat something he/she shouldn’t or gets into something that scratches him/her, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a doggy first aid kit laying around. Just like how you carry one for your kids in case they get hurt, a doggy first aid kit is the best way to immediately treat anything that could happen.
Our typical doggy first aid kit includes:
Buy a Travel Kennel and Dog Bed

Packing up your dog’s favorite dog bed is another good item to bring to help your pet unwind and feel at home inside your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin rental.
