Between the Dollywood theme park and the Dixie Stampede Dinner Show, Dolly Parton’s name has long been synonymous with great entertainment in Pigeon Forge. This trend continues with the opening of her brand new dinner attraction: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures.
Located next door to The Island in Pigeon Forge, this exciting show premiered this spring and has been generating a lot of positive buzz. To help you make the most of your next getaway, Auntie Belham’s Cabin Rentals has put together a guide to everything you can expect at Smoky Mountain Adventures.
Smoky Mountain Adventures tells a story that is near and dear to Dolly Parton’s heart: how her parents fell in love. Set in 1939, the show puts the spotlight on Lee Parton and Avie Lee Owen before they were married. Although Dolly isn’t a character in the show (since she wasn’t born yet), she does narrate the story and sing a few great songs.

The love story between Lee and Avie is mostly told through dancing and acrobatics, rather than dialogue. The talented performers portraying Parton’s parents swing across the stage during beautiful aerial displays that are reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil.
As sparks fly between Lee and Avie, their families compete against each other in the Smoky Mountain Family Contest. In this fun tournament, the Partons wear blue, the Owens wear yellow, and audience members are encouraged to root for their favorite family. When you buy tickets for the show, you’ll get to pick whether you want to sit on the Parton side or the Owen side of the stage.
Some of the competitions featured in the show include trampoline jumping, juggling, and a rope climbing relay. There are even canine competitors who perform some very impressive stunts. If you’re lucky, you might get called on stage to join in the fun!
Be sure to bring a hearty appetite to Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures, because the food is delicious! Guests will enjoy a mouthwatering Southern meal inspired by recipes from Dolly’s family. The dinner includes creamy vegetable soup, BBQ pork, fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, potatoes, corn on the cob, and peach pie. Vegetarian meals are also available upon request.
If you get hungry before the show starts, you can visit Bass Mercantile, the theater’s old-fashioned dry goods store, which offers a variety of tasty snacks and specialty drinks. Bass Mercantile is also a great place to pick up some Pigeon Forge souvenirs or to just relax and enjoy the music from the shop’s player piano.
